NRA Basic Handgun

NRA LogoThis practical basic handgun course is designed for instruction in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere, and introduces the student to the fundamentals of firearms and firearms safety, familiarization with the student’s handgun of choice, along with the skills necessary for proper handling, shooting, and engagement of threats with a revolver or semi-automatic pistol.

During this course you will familiarize yourself with the parts and operation of your personal handgun. The fundamentals of shooting are covered extensively, which are the first steps to developing consistent accuracy. Firearms safety is emphasized as a primary topic throughout the course.

Upon completion of this course the student should be able to explain the different components of a pistol and cartridge. Explain the firing sequence of a cartridge. Explain how to properly store ammunition. Describe the major types of cartridge malfunctions. Safely demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary to safely and accurately assume the bench rest, standing two and standing one hand shooting positions. Describe and demonstrate the proper fundamentals of pistol shooting.

There are no prerequisites for this course. It is recommended for adults or children over the age of 13 who want to learn a foundation for shooting handguns and have little or no previous experience with firearms.

Students will receive the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, course completion certificate and lesson plan.

Each class will include at home and range practices, with class notes for continued study and practice, along with a course certificate of completion.
